Just as teased last week,PlatinumGames via this week’s Famitsu magazine announced a brand new project tentatively titledProject G.G.Directed by Hideki Kamiya,Project G.G.is supposed to be the final part of the Hero Trilogy, which started withViewtiful Joeand continued withThe Wonderful 101.All of this information was revealed via the usualmagazine leaks,as weekly Famitsu magazine will only be available in a few hours.
The announcement ofProject G.G.is linked to an interview with Hideki Kamiya and Atsushi Inaba included in Famitsu. Hideki Kamiya is the director ofProject G.G.and it’s the first self-published new IP by PlatinumGames. If you’re a fan of Tokusatsu, he explained in the interview howViewtiful Joeis basicallyKamen Rider,The Wonderful 101wasSuper Sentai,and nowProject G.G. features a giant hero likeUltraman.
Atsushi Inaba saidProject G.G.’s game genre is similar to “something action something”, and you can guess and fill what the two words will be. Overall, the game will not solely focus on the action genre. Hideki Kamiya also mentionedProject G.G. will betray the fans' expectations in a good way and is a challenge to do something PlatinumGames never did yet. The duo also mentioned they wish to releaseProject G.G. on all existing platforms.
The duo also revealedProject G.G.is in a very early stage of development, and they will fully set up the game’s development team after finishing the planning phase. Around 15 people are currently working onProject G.G., and PlatinumGames will open soon a new studio based in Tokyo to recruit and increase the team to around 100 developers.
In the interview, Atsushi Inaba also mentioned companies other than Tencent approached PlatinumGames for various deals. However,unlike the capital investment from Tencent,all these propositions would have affected their independence, so they ended up declining these deals. This might be referring to howMicrosoft is rumored to have tried to acquire PlatinumGames.
Lastly, Inaba teased PlatinumGames still has one more announcement to make as part of the 4 announcementsthey teased some days ago.For now, we haveThe Wonderful 101: Remastered,Project G.G., and the new studio in Tokyo. There’s one more thing left. Inaba said in the interview it’s “something interesting “for PlatinumGames”, and to look forward to it.
