TheKickstarteris set to run from September 12 to September 15 with the initial goal of $30,000 for a PC release. There will be additional stretch goals available for Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch releases.
Besides Meguro, others working on Guns Undarkness include Ilya Kuvshinov and Lotus Juice. The former is an illustrator best known for working on the Ghost in the Shell series and the latter is a Japanese rapper who’s worked with Meguro in the past.
As for the premise of the game, Guns Undarkness is set in the year 2045. The world has been brought to ruin by nuclear war. The player character is a member of a paramilitary organisation undergoing operations in the post-nuclear landscape. The game will feature a relationship system whereby the player can become closer to their teammates throughout the plot.
In-game, players will be able to command up to three allies in addition to the main character. Using hand signals, the player will be able to task their squadmates to perform actions like taking cover. The turn-based system appears to be reminiscent of the genre, with basic attacks, movement, guarding and special skills that deplete a resource. Outside of missions, there will be a hub area called the Maroon where the player will be able to select missions and buy and sell items.
The background to the nuclear war that devasted the world in Guns Undarkness involves a faction who wanted to “reset” humanity back to its primitive state, utilising nuclear warfare to do so. The player character is a junior paramilitary. According to press materials, “the game’s story will focus on the main protagonists as they fight to revolutionise the human race and move closer to the idea of true love.”
