Wargaming has carved itself a fairly dedicated multiplayer game niche withWorld of Tanks, World of Warplanes, andWorld of Warshipsover the past decade. That being said, the developer revealed that it is still willing to try new things today with the announcement of Wargaming’s latest title - a fantasy action-RPG with MOBA elements calledPagan Online.

As the game’s fairly on the nose title suggests,Pagan Onlineis a online-focused game that takes place in a world where the pagan gods run rampant. The game pulls from lots of “pre-Christian mythology” but still manages to have a dystopian setting. When it comes to gamplay, the game see players fighting tons of enemies in Action-RPG combat that also takes inspiration from MOBAs, rewarding strategic and clever planning.

Pagan Onlineis also set to include a “lengthy” single-player mode at launch that will supported just like the game’s multiplayer with new content expansions calledBattle Chapters.Pagan Onlineis being developed alongside Mad Head Games, a lesser-known developer hoping forPagan Onlineto be their big break. Outside of that, Mad Head Games Co-Founder and Creative Director Uros Banjesevic seemed very enthusiastic when describing gameplay and how it feels to finally show the game off:

Meanwhile, Wargaming is also usingPagan Onlineas a chance to reflect upon its past. Product Director Jacob Beucler stated that the current status and mentality of Mad Head Games reminds Wargaming of its early days working onWorld of Tanks. He also reinforced the fact thatPagan Onlineshows that Wargaming doesn’t necessarily have to just focus on military-based game.

“Mad Head Games are passionate, talented, and have a ‘go broke’ mentality to do whatever it takes to make their game as awesome as it can be. We’ve taken Mad Head under our wing because this mentality reminds us of the early days at Wargaming when we put everything we had on the line to launchWorld of Tanks. Pagan Onlineis one of Wargaming’s most exciting opportunities yet — we’re helping bring these devs’ passion and skill to PC gamers everywhere.”

I guess he “War” part of their studio title can have a lot of interesting connotations, even in fantasy. Pagan Online does look pretty neat from this intial trailer and art, which you may see below, though I’d still want to see more gameplay and try it out for myself before passing final judgment.
