Magic is one of the most important skills you will need to train inOld School RuneScape. Once you reach the legendary level 99, you’ll have multiple tools at your disposal, from variousspellbooks to mythical staves and even thrallsto decimate your enemies.

While 99 may seem like a long way off, in reality,magic is one of the easiest 99s to get in OSRS. In addition, hitting that milestone will net you a fantastic cape that allows you to swap your spellbooks on the fly.
This guide will go through some of the best methods to earn fast XP so you’re able to reach theendgame as quickly as possible.
Starting Off (1-34)
As with most skills, training them from level 1 can be a painful and rather slow process. Thankfully, as usual, we have early-game quests that solve this little issue.
While you’re welcome to go and Wind Strike some cows in Lumbridge, this is a rather slow and inefficient process.
Completing these low-skill requirementquests will shoot you up to 34 magic, unlocking useful spells like Varrock Teleport and Telekinetic Grab, alongside the Elemental Bolt spells.

Doing quests isn’t essential, but you’ll need to complete them to get the Quest Cape,which is a must for any prospective Raiders later down the road.You might as well do them when the XP is helpful.
If you want, complete the first section of Fairytale Part 2 to unlock Fairy Rings. This will help a lot if you don’t have the magic level for certain teleports.
Time to Cast some Spells - (34-50)
While this certainly isn’t the most efficient guide in the world, it is one of the most beginner-friendly.
Instead of using methods like enchanting bolts, which can be prohibitively expensive for someone just coming into the game, it’sbetter to level up organically and explore the worldin the meantime.
Once you’ve unlocked your bolt spells, it’s time to level up your combat by utilizing your spells.Here is a list of some great monsters to train on.
Sand Crabs
Crabs are a variety of monsters with high hitpoints and low defense. Coupled with the fact that they don’t hit you very often, makes them perfect for AFK training. Feel free to set your auto-cast to whichever spell you desire and leave your PC for up to 10 minutes.
Ammonite Crabs
These crabs have even more hitpoints and drop fossils, which can be exchanged for XP lamps in the Varrock museum. Unfortunately, Fossil Island crabs can be very crowded, and if you’re at a low level, you may be crashed by other players. Try the Crabs in the Wyvern dungeon for an easier time
Fire Giants
Due to Project Rebalance, these monsters now have a 100% weakness to water spells, which makes sense. This means your spells will be more accurate and hit for double the damage. More damage = more XP. In addition, these monsters actually have a decent drop table, and if killed in the Giant’s Den, they can drop Ancient shards and Totem pieces. Hold on to these.
Ice Giants
Ice Giants are similar to Fire Giants, though now weak to Fire Spells. While they don’t have as great a drop table, they can be killed a lot earlier in the Asgarnia Ice Dungeon.
Consider downloading OSRS on mobile. This is great for AFKing, as you can earn easy XP on the go. You only need to reset at crabs every 10 minutes, and the levels will fly by without you even realizing.
One Notable Quest (50)
This level is particularly interesting as it opens up one of the most important quests in the game for any budding mages.Desert Treasure I unlocks the Ancient Spellbook,a whole new set of spells that will get a lot of use way into the late game.

The requirements for this quest aren’t too steep, and for something that will be useful for the lifespan of your account, the time it takes is certainly worth it.

This quest is also crucial for many other quests and achievements in the future. A few examples include Recipe for Disaster, Diary Tasks, and, of course, Desert Treasure II.
It may also be worthwhile to complete any other light-requirement quests that have magic XP, like Horror From The Deep and The Eyes of Glouphrie.
In Pursuit of Gold (50-70)
At this point, your magic is starting to get a bit more powerful, but you can’t just keep safe spotting forever. It’s time to learn how to kill some more deadly foes and earn some serious money.
You can also choose to keep AFK’ing at Crabs if you wish. I did this method any time I was working or watching a series or wasn’t at my desk. While the XP per hour may not be great,not having to pay attention while it’s happening helps keep you from burning out.
The End is Within Sight (70-99)
Remember when I said, to make sure you complete Desert Treasure as soon as possible? Well, this is why.
Once you hit 70 magic, you unlockIce Burst, a powerful multi-target spell that is going to help unleash some seriously crazy XP rates.
If you haven’t trained Slayer yet, then this is the time to get started. Certain monsters in Multi-target Slayer Dungeons can be stacked on top of each other and hit all in one go, giving youXP for every point of damage to each monster.As you can imagine, if you’re targeting nine monsters at once, that’s a lot of XP.

Monsters for this includeJellies, Dust Devils, and Nechryaels, which, conveniently, are all found in the Catacombs of Kourend.
At this point, you’re also going to want to invest in some decent gear. While you may stick with Proselyte Prayer gear for Bursting, having an Imbued Slayer Helm and an Occult Amulet is essential and will seriously increase your DPS.
If you’re very lucky, while fighting Slayer monsters, you may also come up against a Superior monster, which has the chance of dropping theImbued Heart. This will boost your magic level based on what level you are currently at. Due to its rarity, it is worth a small fortune and is also useful until the endgame.
The best thing about using this method is that you don’t even notice when you gain levels, because so much is happening at once.
You’re leveling Magic, Slayer, Hitpoints, and even Defenceif you want.All the while, you’re picking up drops and alching to earn money to cover the Rune costs. At this point, you’ll be getting way over100,000 XP per hour.
Upon hitting level 94 Magic, you can switch to Ice Barrage, for even better XP rates.
Bossing and Ironmen
Magic is a great tool against certain bosses and is vital later on in your account progression. Here are a few bosses that you may want to try using your magic abilities.This is great for earning money and upgrading your magic gear.
Barrows Brothers
You can use Air Spells to blow these ghosts away. Completion of this content will get you powerful Ahrim’s Gear, which gives great defence and accuracy as well as Magic damage.
Ahrim’s Robes
This Slayer Boss is rather AFK, and has very few mechanics. It also drops fully-charged Tridents of the Sea, which is a brilliant weapon and is worth a good amount of money.
Trident of the Sea
This will be your first real difficult boss. There are many things to look out for in this fight: poison damage, extra mobs, and prayer switching. Getting good at this fight will prepare you well for the future.
Magic Fang/ Trident of the Swamp
Phantom Muspah
While the Muspah isn’t as crucial as some other bosses, it has some crucial rewards. It will also teach you a few things about gear swapping.
Ancient Essence/Saturated Heart & Ancient Icon/Ancient Sceptre
Tombs of Amascut
This needs no introduction. This Raid will test all of your abilities to the extreme and its scaling difficulty will unlock hundreds of hours of gameplay.
Elidinis' Ward & Tumeken’s Shadow
Of course, these aren’t the only Magic training methods, and you should focus on the one that enjoy the most, not the one that is the most efficient.
OSRS is about having fun, after all,and if you burn out, then you may never reach the endgame. Feeling the power of Tumekens’ Shadow and blasting your way through bosses is something worth waiting for.
