The Marineford arc inOne Pieceholds great importance in the series as not only does it feature the death of Luffy’s brother and one of the most important characters in the story, Portgas D. Ace, but it also marked the beginning of the time skip in the story which led to the Straw Hats training and coming back stronger after two years.
The Marineford arc also featured the Red Hair Pirates who entered the war at the right time and stopped it from growing any further. According to the narrative, before stopping the war, Shanks was engaged in a battle with the Beast Pirates and their leader Kaido, who also was on his way to Marineford and take part in the war.
However, a wild theory claims that Shanks did not fight Kaido to stop him, but instead revealed some details about Luffy which in turn led Kaido to sail back to Wano and drop the idea of going to Marineford and fight the World Government, The Whitebeard Pirates and others.

Shanks Stopped Kaido From Coming To Marineford
There were rumors during the Summit War that Kaido had sailed and was headed for Marineford. It appeared at the time that the yonko’s goal was to become famous by defeating Whitebeard, the strongest man alive.
Kaido desired to upset the world’s balance and usher in a period of violence, and Whitebeard was not to be taken for granted, and he would not tolerate the Beast Pirates captain spreading violence or even setting foot in his territory. But this is just a speculative reason and no one knows what was the true intention of Kaido to go to Marineford.
However, it was later revealed that Kaido and his crew, The Beast Pirates were ultimately stopped by Shanks and the rest of the Red Hair Pirates and were forced to retreat to Wano country. While no one knows how Shanks did it, a theory suggests that he spilled some secrets about Luffy to make him go back.

Theory Suggests Shanks Told Kaido that Luffy is JoyBoy
A video was posted by@Rocksreviewon YouTube about how Shanks stopped Kaido during the Marineford arc. On the video, a user by the name of @Cola-42 commented and talked about a theory that suggested the best scenario for Shanks to force Kaido to retreat. While this theory is not confirmed in any way, it holds some credibility to it.
According to the theory, like a lot of other people including early Shanks, Kaido thought that the son of Roger “Ace” could be JoyBoy. That is why Kaido wanted to go to the war and confirm it with his own eyes. However, Shanks stopped him midway and He told him that Ace was not JoyBoy. Shanks knows JoyBoy needs a certain devil fruit which was eaten by Luffy.

As Kaido only cared about JoyBoy at this point, he retreated and went back to Wano to wait for JoyBoy again. This theory makes sense because if Shanks had fought Kaido, he would have had some sort of battle wound. But when he entered Marineford, he was unharmed. This suggests that Shanks and Kaido probably talked about something and sent him back to Wano Country.
