A new update about Daisy Ridley’s upcomingStar Warsfeature has angered fans of the popular franchise. Ridley is expected to star in the upcoming sequel to the 2019 movieStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
While fans have been excited to watch her reprise the role of Rey Skywalker, the curiosity about who is going to take the responsibility to shape her story has been rising as well.
Finally answering those questions a recent report confirmed that it is none other thanOcean’s 12famed George Nolfi who is penning the script for Daisy Ridley’s movie. Unfortunately though, fans do not seem happy about it.

Set about 15 years later from the events ofThe Rise of Skywalker, the upcoming movie will follow Rey Skywalker’s (Daisy Ridley) journey of forming a new Jedi order. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is confirmed to be making her feature film directorial debut with the project.
The only question that remained unanswered for fans for the longest time was who will pen the script for the upcomingStar Warsmovie. Especially as according toThe Hollywood Reporter,WatchmenfamedDamon Lindelof, andCounterpartfamed Justin Britt-Gibson were initially called on board to work on the movie.
However, the deal with them fell through, and by the time Daisy Ridley confirmed that she would be reprising Rey’s character in the movie,Steven KnightofPeaky Blinderswas involved. Interestingly, even that deal seems to have gone nowhere, as the outlet reported that George Nolfi ofOcean’s 12is now penning the script for the movie.

Nolfi has had a long experience as a scriptwriter in the industry. From twoBournemovies to his directorial debut with 2011’sThe Adjustment Bureau, he has been honing his skills for a long time.
He was also the one who scripted the 2020 period dramaThe BankerstarringAnthony Mackie, andSamuel L. Jackson. Unfortunately, though, the news did not get the kind of reception among fans as Disney might have hoped it would.

Long termStar Warsfans have not taken the news as well as Disney might have hoped. Many have been excited about a newStar Warsadventure, not to mention watchingDaisy Ridleybring Rey to life on screen again, however, the constant scriptwriter changes had put a lot of them on edge.
Interestingly, the reports of Disney collaborating with George Nolfi have only increased their agitation. Many think that Nolfi’s involvement in the movie seems to be more of a bad news than good. They argue that two of his most famous movies,The Bourne Ultimatum, andOcean’s 12had weak plot, with no proper substance to back it up.
The dialogues came out as cringeworthy, and the stories were filled with massive loopholes. As such, they don’t believe he would be the right choice to do justice to Rey Skywalker’s story. There are others who seem to blameKathleen Kennedyfor the whole debacle with the scriptwriters and believe the same fate might befall Nolfi as well.
I can’t believe that’s the best writer they could find. Ocean’s 12 was cringeworthy and Bourne Ultimatum had very little story, it was the action that saved it.
So the dude who wrote 2 of the worst entries of their respective series is writing this now. Sounds great.

A faction of the fandom also seems to think that with the way things are going, it might not be too long before Disney decides to cancel the movie altogether. Incidentally, the company has reportedly shelved quite a lot ofStar Warsprojects in the past few years, one of which wassupposed to be helmed by Guillermo del Toro.

As such, fans dread the same thing happening to Ridley’s movie. Although it is hard to say how things will unfold in the future, the movie seems to be on track for now.
