NintendoPresident Shuntaro Furukawa has apologized for the shortages of the Nintendo Switch 2 in certain regions, as the company has been unable to meet demand.

Most consoles quicklysell out at launch, even those that were later considered failures, as die-hard fans snap them up straight away. The length and severity of these shortages vary based on several factors, with the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S experiencing the worst shortages during lockdown.

Nintendo Switch 2 will have access to GameCube games exclusively via the Nintendo Switch Online service, including The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.

The Switch 2 launchhasn’t been as troubled as those of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but people have still struggled to buy them. This was addressed by Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa during the company’s 85th Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, posted to Twitter/X by NStyles (viaNintendo Life), who apologized for the issues.

In order to combat scalpers and bots, Nintendo has sold many Switch 2 units directly from its store, with customers required to have active Nintendo Accounts to pre-order or purchase them.Stores in Japanhave had to use lottery systems for similar reasons, as it ensures stock isn’t instantly bought up and thrown on eBay.

Furukawa acknowledged the issues and apologized for them, as even some of Nintendo’s shareholders have been unable to snag a system. The demand far outstripped what the company had available to sell.

“As a company, we are working to improve our production system to deliver as many units as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this initial demand, which greatly exceeded our expectations.”

The shortages won’t last forever, and fans shouldn’t be too concerned about missing out, as it’s not as if the Switch 2 library isexploding with killer exclusives. It’s better to just be patient and wait until there are more reasons to get one.
