Augments - or Augmentations - inNightingaleare a way to give your crafting stations access to new recipes. The way Augments works is confusing and not something that is properly explained in the game.
Nightingale: How To Return To Previous Realms
Wondering if you can go back to a realm after leaving in Nightingale? Here’s a guide to help out.
Figuring things out by yourself is possible, but it’s time-consuming and frustrating because you’ll have to juggle through the slow menus to understand what’s happening after you place an Augment in your base. To make things easier for players, we’ve tested out everything you can do with Augments, including how to use them and how to place them in your base. Here’s what you need to know.

How Do Augments Work
You’ll unlock Augments by exploring thePoints of Interest(Bastilles of Intellect,Insight, Aid, Defence, etc). Once you’ve unlocked an Augment, it will appear in yourbuild menu (B)under’Augmentations.‘The way these Augmentations work is that they need to beplaced within the line of sight of a crafting station that they can add new recipes to.
You can check which crafting stations an Augment adds recipes to by looking at the description of the Augment under ‘Adds new recipes to the following stations.’ There will beiconsto the left of the recipes denoting which stations the recipes are added to.

To see which Augment affects which crafting station, click on’Place’and look at thegreen dotted lineemerging from the Augment. These are the stations that will get access to a new recipe provided by that Augmentation.
Now, an important thing that might not be immediately obvious is thatsimply placing an Augment near a crafting station will not give you the ability to craft every single item from the Augment. You need to unlock the recipe of the item itself as well.

Notice in the screenshot above that most of the recipes are locked. This means I haven’t unlocked those recipes, and even if I place the Augment in my base, I won’t be able to craft any of them. The only thing I’ll be able to craft is the one item that’s unlocked.
After unlocking a new recipe, you can see which Augments will let you craft that recipe by going to the Guidebook and looking for the item name under Crafting.

How To Place Augments
The second piece to the puzzle isAugmentation placementand how it works. The first thing we need to understand is thateach crafting station has a limited number of Augmentation slots. You can check how many Augmentation slots a station currently has empty by simply looking at them.Filled Augmentation slots appear in the form of a white checkmark, and the empty ones are black. If all slots are checkmarked, any additional Augments you place around that crafting station will have no effect.
This means that simply placing tons of Augments has no benefit if only a limited number of them are actually affecting the Crafting stations. There aretwo waysto circumvent this.

Method one is quick and dirty but very expensive in the long run. Method two requires planning and some additional effort at the outset, but it’ll ultimately result in a more structured base with more stuff going in.
Nightingale is still in beta, and quite a lot of features may not be immediately obvious to new players. If you’re one of these players, you might find ourhow to switch to 3rd personandhow to split stacksguides helpful.
