Ryoji Masuyama, best known for his work on Darling In The FRANXX, will helm the series as the main director. The series organization will be a joint work between Ryoji Masuyama and the original creator, Yoko Taro. Whilst the character designs will be the responsibility of Jun Magai, who is known for his extensive portfolio of shows such as Ergo Proxy and Wolf’s Rain. Monaca will also be returning to handle the music for the anime just like with the game.

The original voice actors will also be making their return to reprise their roles from the game. Natsuki Hanae will be doing a lot of screaming again as 9S, and Yui Ishikawa will handle the stoic character of 2B just like she did for AOT’s Mikasa. Hiroki Yasumoto and Kaoru Akiyama will also be voicing helper pods 042 and 153 respectively.

According to director Yoko Taro, the anime series intends not only to fill the gaps that the game couldn’t do, such as the portrayal of the character’s facial expressions but go beyond that and create a slightly different version of the story that is more suitable for the anime medium.

The trailer also celebrates Nier Automata selling over 6.5 million copies globally on its own, which is an unprecedented success that cemented the Nier series as a strong and competitive IP for Square Enix. The charm of the Nier setting is the androids who lack both emotions and true names, giving them unique particular attitudes and emotional conflicts that are both inspiring and heart-wrenching.
