Earlier this month, NetherRealm Studios announced the release ofMortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition, which bundled the base game with all the released DLCs. This complete edition also includes a pre-order bonus, Shang Tsung, and even character skins themed after the recently released Mortal Kombat movie.
If this felt like the studio is tying everything up, it’s because they are, as the Definitive Edition caps Mortal Kombat 1’s post-release journey.

In a separate tweet, it continued, “We understand this will be disappointing for fans, but our team at NetherRealm needs to shift focus to the next project to make it as great as we possibly can.”

Mortal Kombat 1 Fans Mock Homelander’s Shocking Design On Nintendo Switch
Mortal Kombat 1’s Switch version is once again in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
Released in September 2023, Mortal Kombat 1 is the latest game in the longstanding fighting game franchise, which saw a full reboot (hence the title). While itreceived favorable reviews at launch, it failed to capture the same interest as Mortal Kombat 11.

The last DLC fighter to appear in the game was theTerminator franchise’s T-1000, which was released in March. If NetherRealm’s next project is indeed Injustice 3, this means the Mortal Kombat franchise will take a break, as the developers focus on the latest entry in the DC-based fighter, which hasn’t seen a new entry in almost 10 years.
At the very least, if you’re interested in Mortal Kombat 1, the Definitive Edition houses everything the game received post-launch, and it’s confirmed that more bug fixes and updates are planned, so it’s not like the game is being abandoned entirely. Just don’t expect any new content.
