Moon Studios, the developer behind the critically acclaimed Ori franchise and the new early-access title No Rest for the Wicked,has gone fully independent, having secured the publishing rights to the new title.

No Rest for the Wicked is a Diablo-like action role-playing game that was first revealed back in December 2023 and made available in April 2024 as an early-access title on Steam.

Money don’t grow on trees.

Initially, this game was supposed to be published by Private Division, Take-Two’s subsidiary publishing company, which focused on smaller indie titles. However, things changed slightly last year, when Take-Two Interactive announced they were selling Private Division to an unnamed company. Later, it was revealed thatPrivate Division was to be run by former employees of Annpurna Interactive.

According to Take-Two, this sale included the rights to all previous and existing titles published by Private Division. However, they decided to keep No Rest for the Wicked out of the deal for some reason and promised to continue supporting its development.

No Rest For The Wicked Roadmap

It has been a couple of months since then, and now Moon Studios has acquired full publishing rights to No Rest for the Wicked from Take-Two. This news was announced during a new trailer showcasing the next big update,called The Breach.

Moon Studios believes that this change will lead to “execute our vision without restrictions.”. Thomas Mahler, director of No Rest for the Wicked, said the following in the new trailer:

“We believe this will give you even more confidence in our vision, because we’re free to build No Rest for the Wicked exactly how we want, without needing to even go silent again."

The Breach Expands The World of No Rest For The Wicked

The Breach,which will be available on April 30 this year, will feature new areas, factions, enemies, bosses, weapons, secrets, and more. It’s going to be the biggest update so far, doubling the size of the game’s world and expanding the lore and story.

The highly requested co-op addition will be the major focus of the next update after The Breach. Moon Studios plans to add co-op support for up to four players.

Additionally, it was announced that new soundtracks composed by Gareth Coker, the original composer for the Ori franchise, will be added to No Rest for the Wicked in this new update. Gareth Coker said the following:

“I’m happy to announce that I’ve been hard at work crafting an unforgettable score for the story, the characters, the locations, and the boss fights of No Rest for the Wicked. And you will finally be able to hear some ambient music while out exploring in the world, too. I can’t wait to see where this journey leads us once again.”
