Samin’s Research Report is a series of side quests inMonster Hunter Wildswhere Samin sends the player to capture various creatures. There are three creatures players need to capture:a Dapperwing, a Rime Needle, and a Sandstar.

Due to Samin being terrible at giving instructions, he doesn’t really provide any useful information on the creature’s whereabouts, except for the biome it’s located in. The lack of information can make these creatures really challenging to track down.

How to Find a Sandstar

Finding a Sandstar is the hardest objective for Samin’s Research Report. It’s a quick and tiny little blue mouse that will run away when you get remotely close to it.

In this case, I recommendbringing aScreamer Podwith you before heading to its location, an item that can stun animals.

Players can find the Sandstar inZone 13 of Windward Plains, south of the small pond. The Sandstar is most likely tospawn at nighttime during thePlenty environmental phase.

If the Sandstar doesn’t spawn during this environment and time, then rest at your campsite, choose Nighttime and Plenty again, and then search for the Sandstar for a second time. Repeat this process until it appears.

When you find the Sandstar, equip aScreamer Podand shoot it at the Sandstar to stun it. Next, bring out yournetand capture it to complete the objective.

Players can also equip a Ghillie Suit, sneak up on the Sandstar, and shoot thenetabove the Sandstar to capture it.

After returning to Samin and handing over the Sandstar, you’ll have officially completed the Samin’s Research Report side quest in Monster Hunter Wilds. Your rewards include cooking ingredients, Hunter Rank XP, and Guild Points!
