InAllen Tsai’s YouTubechannel, he shared one small but interesting detail about thestrals and theHarry Pottercharacter Padma Patil.
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Padma recoils in the background because she actually bumps into a thestral, an invisible winged horse attached to the carriage.
Fans could see the actress jerk a little bit after pretending to bump into something that wasn’t exactly on the screen. In the movie, there is actually a thestral attached to the carriage that the students passed by.

What’s a thestral, anyway? According toWizarding World, it is a breed of winged horses that are “visible only to those who had witnessed death.” They appear to have “skeletal bodies, reptilian features, and wide bat-like wings” in which their incorporeal form reflects their link to the afterlife.
When a creature looks like this, it’s no surprise that they are considered “bad omens despite their intelligence and loyalty to some humans.” So what does this little detail imply? Padma Patil, played by Afshan Azad, had witnessed someone die.
