Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, who were working on the sci-fi film, wanted Fox for the lead role as they believed that his comedic timing and acting skills could translate well into the role of Marty McFly.
However, the show’s producer Gary David Goldberg was reluctant to let go of Fox, even reportedly asking Steven Spielberg, who hadset up the project at his Amblin Entertainment studio,not to show the script to Fox.

However, after about a month of filming, the filmmakers realized that only Fox could truly capture the essence of the character. They eventually decided to replace Stoltz with Fox.

In addition to his grueling work schedule, the actor had to adhere to a specific agreement prioritizing the sitcom. According toCollider, Fox was required to agree that in case of any scheduling conflicts, the sitcom would take precedence and it would come first.

However, all his hard work paid off, as the film ended up being a massive hit, spending 11 weeks at the top of the box office and earning an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
