If you’ve just started your journey withMetaphor: ReFantaziojourney and are wondering how to beat Undead Grius, one of the early bosses in the game, then you’re in the right place! ATLUS’ new title throws a lot at you, and it can be a bit difficult to understand what is happening at times.

Boss battles in the game function similarly toPersonaand other turn-based combat titles. Along with several gameplay elements, even the narrative has a strong opening as Grius doesn’t start as an enemy. Unfortunately, our party member becomes part of the recently deceased, and it’s our job to put him to rest using our still-nascent skills.

Undead Grius is the second boss inMetaphor: ReFantazio, and he can be found once you enter the Cathedral through the Mausoleum in Grant Trad. Being one of the early bosses, his role in the game is to get the player familiar with combat mechanics and prepare them for later fights.Metaphor: ReFantazio’s combat can get very technical, and it pays to get as much practice in as possible.

Given Undead Grius is a boss in the prologue, he is unskippable and important to the story. We last see him attempting to assassinate Louis during the Royal Funeral. His death was a gut punch so early on in the game, especially since they wouldn’t have had a chance to increase their Bond Rank much. butMetaphor: ReFantazioplayers did not expect to run into him once more, as a foe, in their second major dungeon of the title.

You will have some new members to your party added for this fight, but it’s not going to make it a walk in the park. Unless you know what to expect from this assassin, he may make you join his rank among the undead very soon. So, first, let’s do a bit of prep work and understand how to kill Undead Grius, if that’s even possible.

Metaphor: ReFantazio – How to Use Fae Sight

With Undead Grius appearing so early in the game, the player would still be getting their bearings in the game and understanding how to use their characters. As they progressed the story to this point, the player would have added both Strohl and Hulkenberg to theirMetaphor: ReFantazioparty. Hulkenberg’s Archetype is going to be very important for this run, so players should familiarize themselves with her attacks.

Players can also choose to have the Protagonist take center stage in this fight,as they would have awakened their Archetype in previous battles. If you’re taking this approach, then make sure you pick up some healing items from a Merchant as you might run into some sticky situations. Keeping Strohl as a backup healer is also a viable strategy to improve your odds of survival.

Suggested Party

Undead Grius is going to be weak to Light attacks, and using Hulkenberg’s Knight’s Proclamation at every turn should help keep the rest of yourMetaphor: ReFantazioparty out of danger. The Knight Archetype is resistant to Slash damage, and it’s the only kind of damage that Undead Grius will deal to party members throughout this single-stage fight.

With the Knight being resistant to Slash damage, Hulkenberg will take reduced damage for the entire fight, unless Undead Grius lands a critical hit. If you don’t use Knight’s Proclamation, Undead Grius’ multi-targeted attack called Phantom Dance will hit your entire party and can take you out of the fight quickly.

An alternate strategy to the Seeker Archetypeis to equip your Protagonist with the Healer Archetype. This would allow you to use the light-based Hama innate skill and will learn the Medi skill at level 3, allowing you to target Undead Grius’ weakness to Light attacks.

you’re able to have Strohl with the Warrior Archetype landing consistent damage using Diagonal Slash and Round Slash. Round Slash is a Synthesis Skill, and can only be performed if you have a Knight Archetype on your team.

If you have a Seeker Archetype, then you can also use the Rider of the Blade Synthesis Skill with the Knight Archetype, but it will take two Turn Icons. However, these should be replenished when the attack lands. Considering this attack also deals Light damage, you may not need to go with the Healer Archetype for the Protagonist.

You will learn about and how to use Synthesis Skills during this fight, and it’s a great time to experiment with what works. This also allows you to deal some massive damage to Undead Grius using the various Synthesis attacks your team can utilize with the new Knight Archetype.
