As a special treat to end the year,Riot Gameshas announced thatLeague of Legendsplayers will be able to participate in the first-ever ARAM clash event on December 10th and 11th.
ARAM (all random, all mid) is generally seen as a more casual game mode due to its random nature. However, to celebrate a slew of changes coming to the game mode in the upcoming season, Riot will be hosting a clash weekend on the new-look Howling Abyss map. Clash, a mini-tournament mode that occurs on specific weekends, has previously only ever taken place on the primary Summoner’s Rift map.

The clash ARAM will be taking place on the aforementioned dates, which is three days after the upcoming changes go live. As the mode is usually treated as a non-competitive casual game mode by the majority of the player base, it will be interesting to see how it translates to the competitive environment of a clash tournament.

The ARAM clash is being held to celebrate the upcoming changes coming to the game mode and its Howling Abyss map. This is a rare move by Riot who has left the game mode mostly unchanged since its release over a decade ago.
A major change is coming to curb the power that ranged champions have over melee champions in the early game. Melee champions will be gaining bonus magic resist to contend with the pressure that ranged champions can apply. Lifesteal against minions will also be nerfed, eliminating a previously reliable form of sustain.
The big update is undoubtedly the changes being made to the Howling Abyss. Not only is the map receiving a visual upgrade, but there are new mechanics arriving as well. Hexgates are being added, allowing players to return to the action more quickly. New brushes are also being added and towers will leave behind debris when destroyed, adding a new obstacle to the environment.
These changes and more will be arriving with Patch 12.23 on December 7.
