Locate Grandmaster Barnaby
After completing Wine, Women, And Blood and picking up this quest from Innkeeper Lawrence, head to the new marker on your map designating the Trosky grandmaster’s location.
He’s a quick jaunt by horseback to the north-east of Tachov, so hop on your trusty steed and get a move on.
You shouldn’t bump into anything dangerous on the way, so take in the scenery of Trosky Castle on your way.
Eventually, you’ll come to an unassuming-looking alchemist’s hut in the woods.
Don’t let this humble dwelling trick you, however. According to Innkeeper Lawrence, inside lives the region’s most dangerous, fearsome fighter.
Convince Barnaby To Fight
Contrary to what Lawrence made it sound like, the owner of this home is an elderly, friendly-looking man.
Speak with him, and he’ll tell you his name is Barnaby, and that he’s really not interested in fighting anymore.
In his older age, he’s become more invested in tending his gardens and crafting potions for the locals.
Just keep pressing him to battle in every dialogue option you have, and he’ll eventually agree to a fight under two conditions:
Agree to his terms, and you’ll head outside to battle.
Since there are no second chances in this fight, consider saving beforehand just to be safe.
Win Your Final Brawl
Surrounded by his lovely garden, you and Barnaby will face off for the final showdown.
As you know by now, there’s not much to these unarmed encounters. Dodge, block, counter, wait patiently for your openings, and punish with repeated punches if the moment allows.
Before coming to final blows, Barnaby will graciously bow out of the fight, crowning Henry the new grandmaster of Trosky.
Speak with Barnaby afterward, and he’ll offer to patch you up inside his hut.
Henry won’t seem too interested at first, but will have a dialogue option to accept the invitation once Barnaby mentions he has some extraMeadon hand to split.
Bond With Barnaby Over Drinks
Back inside is a lengthy section of dialogue that you’re free to explore as long as you please. With the passing of some occasional skill checks, Barnaby will give you more and more information about his past.
This conversation is well worth your time, and covers topics such as unrequited love, sexuality, bullying, and the need to occasionally defend yourself when necessary.
There’s a lot of good stuff here, so soak it all in.
Your Newest Skill Teacher
Eventually, Barnaby’s stories will end, and the task will conclude without any reward aside from the pride of knowing you’re the strongest boxer in the land and the pleasant feeling of making a new friend.
The one benefit is that Barnaby is now available as a Skill Teacher, and he’s one of the best available in the first half of the game.
