How Do You Save In Kingdom Come Deliverance 2?
In KCD2, there are only two ways to save the game, and only one of these can be triggered manually by the player. Here is a quick rundown of how to make this happen:
Save After Major Events
While KCD2 does want to take away your save game agency, it’s not a completely monstrous game. After every major story event, or by furthering a quest, the game will save, allowing you to play with a little bit more freedom.
However, the issue with relying on this method is that there will usually be a lot of traveling, story beats, and hurdles to clear between each story-related save, and any death along the way will set you back.
Save By Drinking Savior Schnapps
If you don’t want to rely on story-related saves entirely, then you’re going to need to get your hands on Savior Schnapps.
This is an alcoholic drink within the game that will not only buff your stats like any other stiff drink. It will also save your game there and then. However, without this item in your inventory, you simply won’t be able to save at all.
This comes in weak and standard varieties, but this only relates to the stat buffs, and either concoction will save the game regardless of potency.
You can either trigger this action by going into your inventory and drinking the sweet nectar, or you can just pause the game and choose ‘save’ provided you have some Schnapps on you.
Save By Sleeping
If you’re in a position where you’re low on ingredients, fresh out of Schnapps, and nowhere near progressing any questline, then you do have one other option. If the player sleeps in an owned bed for a substantial amount of time, the game will save.
The player will gradually acquire more places to sleep throughout the opening hours of the game by completing quests, but provided you have the cash, you can always head to a local inn and provide the fee for room and board.
This way, you get fed to keep your strength up, and you get to sleep until morning, allowing you to set off feeling fresh with the safety net of a dropped save.
Just be sure not to sleep in a random bed, because chances are the game won’t save, and you’ll be in trouble with the constabulary.
How To Get Savior Schnapps
First of all, you’ll need to get a little way into the game before you gain a means of getting regular access to Savior Schnapps. You’ll need to get to the point in the main story where Hans and Henry are ready to leave Bozhena’s home.
At this point, her daughter Pavlena will give you five helpings of Weak Savior Schnapps, and will also give you the recipe for brewing your own Savior Schnapps.
If you’re wondering why the recipe is not available via the alchemy station, it may be because you haven’t learned the recipe yet. You need to go into your inventory and select the recipe to add it to your learned skills.
