There was much to love aboutKatana Zero, from the combat to the overall aesthetic, but the original musical soundtrack definitely played a large part in all of it. Those addicted to the electronic instrumentals of the game are now in luck, withtheKatana Zerosoundtrack available on multiple platforms. Anyone can purchase the soundtrack oniTunesorBandcamp, or stream on platforms likeSpotify,Apple Music, orSoundCloud.
Music comes from artists and labels LudoWic, Bill Kiley, Tunç Çakır, DJ Electrohead, and Justin Stander. There may be obvious comparisons toHotline Miamiin terms of gameplay, aesthetic, and difficulty, but this soundtrack does more than enough to stand out on its own. It is a violent and fast-paced game, butKatana Zerois also one about careful planning and heavy contemplation, and as intense as the music became at points, it surprisingly made for some good thinkin' tunes.
The soundtrack is made up of 34 tracks for a total of an hour and 34 minutes. The game has been quite successful, selling 100,000 copies in its first week, with DLC to come in the future. Unfortunately, at the moment, players in New Zealand and Australia haven’t been able to experience the game for themselves, withtheir rating board refusing classificationthrough some sort of automated process.
Along with some techno, electronic, house, or whatever genre you’d like to classify this music under, there are also pieces that reflect on the surreal nature of the game, with ominous electronic sounds. And players who remember the therapist character will be able to associate the unusual piano music with him as well, making for a slightly more diverse soundtrack than that of other similar games.
