Having spent 40 years in the movie business, Johnny Depp has a resume that would make anybody in Hollywood jealous. The 61-year-old boasts appearances in movies likeAlice in Wonderland,Murder on the Orient Express,Black Mass,Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber on Fleet Street,Edward Scissorhands, and many more. However, Depp is most known for acting as Captain Jack Sparrow in thePirates of the Caribbeanfranchise.
Depp’s excellence was undeniable in all five films that were made between 2003 and 2017. Who would ever forget the iconic Jack Sparrow, his epic sword fight scenes, and witty jokes? And surely, at some point, we all shipped him with Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swann.
There were a few moments inThe Curse of the Black PearlandDead Man’s Chestthat made it seem like Sparrow and Swann could’ve been something. But when it came to shooting rather intimate scenes between both characters, Depp could control the awkwardness that bubbled within him.

A kissing scene for Keira Knightley would’ve fulfilled a dream every female fan of his may have had, but it wasn’t a pleasant moment for Depp.

The kissing scene that’s being referred to is from thePirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chestmovie, when Elizabeth Swann kissed the infatuated captain to distract him while her crew escaped from Davy Jones’ ship. Depp spoke about it while being interviewed byVanity Fair,
Kissing someone you are not romantically involved with is always awkward. But the fact that Keira is 20-something years younger than me made it infinitely more awkward. Still, she was a good sport about it and we did what we had to do.
He also further explained the situation toTMZsaying that the scene was especially awkward since he first met Knightley when she was a teenager. But his relationship withAmber Heardcertainly makes it hard to believe that he found that scene awkward since he shared a 22-year age difference with his ex-wife. On the other hand, the lack of romance completely makes sense.
Keira Knightley thought the kissing scene with Johnny Depp was fantastic
As mentioned earlier, while it would’ve been hard for Johnny Depp to tackle the awkwardness he felt,Keira Knightleywas over the moon when it happened. While many teenage girls who find Depp attractive could only dream of a kissing scene with him, Knightley had one of her childhood wishes granted onPirates of the Caribbean.

According toUNILAD, the 39-year-oldLove Actuallyactress was overwhelmed at the fact that she got to kiss Depp as well as Swann’s love interest, Will Turner, who was played byOrlando Bloom. She said,
I couldn’t ask for a better kissing scene with Johnny Depp actually, I think my 14-year-old self was yelping with pleasure… It was fantastic! What more can a girl ask for? I’ve got Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, and I get to kiss both of them. It’s wonderful!
Unfortunately, some fans were left in dismay as Elizabeth Swann ultimately pursued Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) in the storyline. Maybe Sparrow and Swann unite in a parallel universe. But fans on Earth can only hope to see them back in action on the silver screen, just for old times’ sake.
