But fans are not the only ones who are hating on the film. Apparently, Phoenix himself seemingly called the film ‘horrible’ after its Venice premiere. In a video that has gone viral, Phoenix seems to be leaning into his co-starLady Gagaand says something while the film received a standing ovation.
Many have speculated that Phoenix might have uttered the word ‘horrible’ while describing the film, which Gaga seemed to disagree with. An X user also posted a video that allegedly used an AI lip reader to determine what the two were saying in the video.

As weird of a guy he is, I would believe someone who saw his own movie and knows it’s bad
He’s definitely not holding back with whatever that was

Todd Philips’Joker: Folie à DeuxMight Be In Trouble At The Box Office
Todd Philips’ 2019 filmJokerwas a surprise blockbuster, earning over $1.07 billion at the box office despite a modest $70 million budget. However, its runaway success led to the sequelJoker: Folieà Deuxreceiving a much larger budget, which reportedly amounts to around $200 million.
“Gaga stopped and did this thing”: Todd Phillips May be Straight up Lying, Lady Gaga’s Kiss Scene With a Woman in Joker 2 Couldn’t be Improvised Due to 1 Simple Reason
Varietyreported that the film needed to make at least $450 million to break even but, despite the film being number one at the box office, breaking even would be a task. The musical theme of the film seems to have worked against it and the audiences and critics seem to be in consensus about the film’s storytelling (viaRotten Tomatoes).
Adding to the lackluster opening of the film, which clocked in at $37 million domestically and a global total of $114 million, the film might drop down with upcoming releases, and negative word-of-mouth might also affect its sales. In the end, this might be the DCU’s (although an Elseworld story) first big box office bomb.

Joker: Folie à Deuxis currently available in cinemas.
