In a world where superhero games have become increasingly popular, one hero has been noticeably absent from the gaming scene: Superman. Despite being one of the most iconic characters in comic book history, the Man of Steel has yet to star in a truly great video game. But could James Gunn’s upcomingSupermanreboot change all that?

Gunn, who is best known for his work on theGuardians of the Galaxyfilms, has a proven track record of bringing lesser-known comic book characters to life on the big screen. And if the success of the 2021Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxygame is any indication, his influence could be just what theSupermanfranchise needs to finally break into the gaming world.

When theGuardians of the Galaxygame was released in 2021, it took many players by surprise. Developed by Eidos-Montréal, the game was praised for its engaging storyline, memorable characters, and stunning visuals. It even went on to win the Best Narrative award at The Game Awards that year.

But what many people may not realize is that the groundwork for the game’s success was laid years earlier byJames Gunn‘sGuardians of the Galaxyfilms. Gunn’s unique vision and quirky sense of humor helped to bring the ragtag group of space outlaws into the mainstream, paving the way for the game to explore their stories in even greater depth.
Of course, the game isn’t a direct adaptation of the films. But it’s hard to deny that Gunn’s influence can be felt throughout, from the witty banter between characters to the colorful, cosmic settings. And if Gunn can have that kind of impact on a relatively obscure property likeGuardians of the Galaxy, just imagine what he could do with a character as iconic as Superman.

A New Hope for Superman Games?
Let’s face it:Supermangames have had a rocky history, to say the least. From the infamously buggySuperman 64to the lacklusterSuperman Returnstie-in game, the Man of Tomorrow has never quite managed to soar in the gaming world.
But with James Gunn at the helm of the upcomingSupermanreboot, there’s reason to be cautiously optimistic. Gunn has already proven that he has a knack for bringing beloved comic book characters to life in new and exciting ways. And if his vision for Superman resonates with audiences, it could open the door for a whole new era of DC games.

Of course, there are still plenty of hurdles to overcome. Developing a Superman game that captures the character’s incredible (and outright overpowered) power setwhile still providing a satisfying gameplay experienceis no easy feat. And with the recent controversy surrounding the DC Universe’s future, there’s no guarantee that such a game would even get the green light.
But if anyone can make it happen, it’s James Gunn. His track record speaks for itself, and his passion for the source material is evident in everything he does. So while we may not be getting a Superman game anytime soon, it’s hard not to get excited about the possibilities that Gunn’s involvement brings to the table.
