His commitment to bringing the beloved character of Alucard back to life, after his originalCastlevaniaappearance, really left an impression on Bradley. He shared:
He definitely did bring thoughts to the recording sessions and there were definitely conversations with him about how Alucard would behave in situations. His performance is marvelous. I could listen to him forever.
Born around 1456, Alucard is about 336 years old inCastlevania: Nocturneset in 1792 during the French Revolution. Thecenturies of adventure have shaped him into a wiserand very different person from the one we once knew.
In Season 2, Alucard is showcased as a mentor, an uncle, and a family member connected to every Belmont. It’s clear how much Alucard has changed overthe hundreds of years sincewe last saw him.
Now, he views his father (Dracula) through a lens of love, particularly the love his father had for Alucard’s mother—the very reason he’s here.
Castlevaniaexplores Dracula’s thirst for vengeance with complexity and emotion
Unlike many animated series that portray villains as evil for the sake of it,Castlevaniadelves into Dracula’s tragic past, exploring his anger and thirst for vengeance. This complex portrayal leaves viewers emotional, offering a deeper understanding of his beliefs and pain.
In the beginning, Dracula isn’t showcased as an evil character but as a family head who isolated himself from human society. The King of Vampires was able to stick close to his humanity thanks to his lovely companion and human wife, Lisa Tepes.
‘Castlevania: Nocturne’ Got Away With Breaking the Golden Rule of Storytelling Due to Alucard’s Connection to the Belmonts
However, Dracula’s happiness doesn’t last for long, as the humans driven by greed plot Lisa’smurder by associating with the church.
This inhuman act by the church becomes the turning point in the series and shapes Dracula’s character to the path of vengeance.
Writer Warren Ellis believed in not designing any character entirely negatively and gave the unremorseful king of vampires character a more captivating and sympathetic story.
