Opposed to EL James’s novels, the adaptations have significantly less full-frontal male n-dity. However, prior to the release ofFifty Shades Freed, the final installment in the Dakota Johnson-led trilogy, it was rumored that her costar, Jamie Dornan, was offered $1.5M to bear it all.
But despite these rumors, the theatrical release didn’t see the actor going full-frontal n-de onscreen, and Dornan even later debunked the rumors of being offered $1.5M to do so. Moreover, according to director James Foley, he did go full n-de for the film, which never made it out of the editing room.
Going Full-Frontal N-de Didn’t Serve the Movie’s Story per Jamie Dornan
For most of his adult scenes in the trilogy,Jamie Dornanpreferred wearing a modesty pouch, and when asked about the rumors of being offered an additional amount, the actor joked“It was $30 million — to show one testicle”. He continued (viaElle):
No, that whole thing with offering more money to go n-de? That didn’t happen.
Dornan further elaborated that the threequel simply didn’t need him going completely n-ked, stressing it would’ve served no purpose with respect to the story.
Speaking of n-dity in films, he said:
I feel like if it serves a story to see more, then I am all for it. If I don’t think it adds anything or I don’t deem it to be necessary to move the story along, then I don’t think you need to see that part of me, or that part of Dakota [Johnson]. It just becomes sort of gratuitous if we don’t need it.
However, per director James Foley, who also helmed the sequel followingSam Taylor-Johnson’s departure, they did shoot Dornan in all his glory for the final chapter.

Speaking toEntertainment Tonight, Foley revealed they filmed several scenes of Dornan going full-frontal n-de, which never made it out of the editing room.

Similar to Dornan, the director shared those scenes served no purpose to the overall story and would’ve come off” kind of deliberate cut”.
There were actually scenes that we shot where it was [full-frontal nudity]. [Dornan and I] never talked about [having him show more]. But in the final cut, I’m being totally honest, it just didn’t come off… Full frontal would have been a kind of deliberate cut, to see that for no reason.
The decision to not incorporate his full n-de scene in the final cut didn’t impact the movie’s box-office performance, as, despite its lukewarm critical reception, it made nearly$372Mat the box office.
