It was all very exciting and I know I hope people are happy because it seems like in Hollywood, remember kids, it’s not important if it’s of high quality, only if it makes money. A good example would be Transformers, and to be completely fair to Michael Bay, I have never seen a Transformers film, I know they’re among the highest-grossing films in Hollywood history.
My larger point was it doesn’t matter if it’s good, as long as it makes money, because The Force Awakens made a lot of money, ergo, it’s good.
Hamill brought in theTransformersfranchise to make his point about how the industry focuses on financial success over artistic merit. Even though he said all this in a humorous way, the actor’s words certainly carry a deeper critique of the system, and how its values have evolved.
