After which the host, enquired about how the actor manages to capture such a wide range of emotions. To this McAvoy added:

I don’t know, I’m kind of emotionally incontinent, I guess. I have access to that just myself. If it helps tell the story, and if it’s appropriate for the story, it just ends up happening when it should. If the writing is good, it just happens. It’s not forced, it is pre-considered, but when they say action, hopefully you just let it happen. The story, script, lines, relationships, and dynamics just sort of make it happen to you as much as you try and make it happen. That’s when a script is really good.

The actor was also questioned about what he likes about the psychological horror genre. He answered that his participation in a particular project depends solely on the quality of the script, rather than the genre itself. Rightly so, throughout his career spanning several decades, McAvoy has worked in movies that have showcased his diverse range as an actor.

Has James McAvoy Watched the Original Speak No Evil?

James McAvoy was very intrigued when he read the script ofSpeak No Evil. And agreed to play the titular role of Paddy in the project. This was the American adaptation of the Danish movie of the same name released in 2022. And unlike others who’d look at the source material before a role, McAvoy completely avoided watching the original.

In an interview withGames Radar+, he added that if he had seen the original before filming. He might have not taken part in the adaptation as it would have just brought unnecessary pressure. McAvoy further added:

I’d heard of the original, but I hadn’t seen the trailer and I certainly hadn’t seen the film, which I’m glad about because I don’t know if I’d have taken the role if I had. (Further) [I] just don’t really want to be comparing myself to what somebody else [has] done. So I watched it the day after we finished.

James McAvoy foundSpeak No Evilinteresting because it shows two very different couples. One couple has a relationship that feels dull and unhappy, which nobody would want for themselves. The other couple seems to have a perfect, happy love that many people dream about.
