Expectedly, playing a couple who eventually get married, meant that the celebrities were involved in many romantic and intimate scenes in the show. But this proved to be a tough proposition for Hannigan especially when it came to kissing Segel on camera, owing to the fact that he was a smoker.

I cannot stand cigarette smoke. It’s like kissing an ashtray and he’s trying to be polite by having gum or mints, but it doesn’t help.

Hannigan, who was determined to find a solution to Segel’s habit, revealed that she gave him an ultimatum for him to stop smoking during the filming of the series.
So we did this bet where he would owe me $10 every time he had a cigarette. After the first day, he owed me $200.

While it is unclear if the actor actually got her co-star to pay her this money, it so happened that Segel decided to quit smoking overnight and kept away from the habit for a year before falling back into it again later.
