In an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, Sheridan talked about how he learned the art of writing from doing everything that he did not wish to do in his acting. From dialing down dialogues to looking for complex characters in simple plots, the co-creator ofYellowstonehad a lot to share.
Exposition in dialogue is something you do a lot when you’re on television like I was. It gave me an allergy to that. I’m allergic to exposition now in my writing.
Sheridan further continued,
I look for absurdly simple plots, so I can simply focus on the characters. Having an understanding of what dialog’s easy to say and hard to say, I think that that’s helpful too.
On the contrary, the exposition does become sometimes necessary if the plot is really convoluted (like Netflix’sDark, for example). However, Sheridan is also right in the matter that sometimes the dialogues are often dumbed down to another extent for people to understand!

We were in early talks about a lot of different things. He just created so much material that, you know, I never get to work with the guy anymore. He’s just too busy creating shows and run the shows, you know.
He further continued,
Wind River is my favorite job. But with this one, I signed on to do the first season of Mayor of Kingstown without reading a word of it, just off what was kinda pitched to me over the phone, and I wanna work with him again so let’s do it.
Luckily for the actor, Sheridan was a man of his word andMayor of Kingstownbecame one of the most successful series by Taylor Sheridan. With 3 seasons to its name, the 2021 series currently stands at a rating of 8.2/10 on IMDB.
