Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon Cityjust received itsfirst trailerearlier today and has likely left many people wondering whether or not this is the new Netflix series or something entirely different.
TheResident Evilseries seems to be nearly everywhere these days, with the games at the best they’ve ever been and the expansion of the property to different mediums.
There have already been a series of mostly disconnectedResident Evilfilms in the past, but now the brand newResident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon Citymovie trailer has arrived and very likely has sparked some confusion.
What IsResident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City?
Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon Cityis a full scale reboot of theResident Evilmovie franchise, this time being fully based around the games themselves rather than just adding elements and characters from them later.
As you would have noticed in the full trailer if you happened to watch, it brings up multiple times thatResident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon Citywill be only in theaters.
That doesn’t mean it won’t release elsewhere later of course, but rather will not be going to streaming day and date with the release in theaters like we’ve seen with many movies over the last year and a half.
Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoonis a mix between the stories ofResident Evil 1and 2, where we get both the mansion story with Jill Valentine (Hannah John-Kamen) and Chris Redfield (Robbie Amell), as well as the police station story with Leon S. Kennedy (Avan Jogia) and Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario).
This is what fans of the series have been asking for over the years as a more faithful approach to the series in movie form, especially after the approach that the original series took.
What Is The Live Action Netflix Series?
Netflix actually has a lot of investment in the Resident Evil franchise, with two series related to the platform.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darknesswas released on Netflix this past summer and is a CG mini-series that takes place between the event ofResident Evil 4 and 5and follows Leon and Claire.
The series that most are probably confusingResident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon Citywith though is the simply titledResident Evilseries that is coming to Netflix likely sometime in 2022.
Rather than following the familiar characters like the new movie in theaters or even the CG series on Netflix, the live action Netflix series will take place much later and follow the children of the villainous Albert Wesker.
This is definitely an interesting premise and one that sets it apart from the reboot movie series that begins withResident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City.
Resident Evilfans are certainly about to have plenty of content to enjoy outside of the games and previous movie franchise, so hopefully they all turn out to be very enjoyable additions to this fan favorite series.
