During yesterday’sXboxDeveloper Direct showcase, fans were given their very first look at Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, an upcoming first-person action-adventure game byMachineGames, the studio behindWolfenstein. Unfortunately, despite its stunning visuals and epic Indy whip action, fans have decided to make its first-person camera angle the center of attention.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be a first-person game, but MachineGames has said it “still wants [players] to have those moments of seeing Indy.” During cutscenes and traversal moments, The Great Circle will pull the camera back and give the player a third-person perspective. However, some fans are insistent that the whole game should have been third-person. Others are shutting down the Moaning Myrtles and stating that a third-person perspective would be too reminiscent ofUnchartedorTomb Raider.

The Skywalker Saga Was Great, But It’s Time For Lego Tie-in Games To Evolve
What more can be done with this series that started a long, long time time in a galaxy far, far away?
Whether it’s in the YouTube comments section, Twitter, or Reddit, there’s a mountain of fans expressing their disappointment over The Great Circle’s first-person perspective. Thankfully, there’s a second mountain of individuals that are praising MachineGames for not going down the third-person route.

“Sigh….I was hoping this would be a third-person game,” Reddit userpotato_controlsaid. WhileUpbeat-Berry1377apparently just hates the whole first-person action-adventure genre, posting “First person action adventure game? Hard Pass for me personally,” over on Reddit.
Others were wary of The Great Circle’s first-person perspective, but still have a positive attitude after seeing the first gameplay trailer. “Would have wished for third person but looks really amazing. Indiana jones was my childhood and I can’t wait to play this game,” YouTube user Combative117 said.

Another YouTube user, ivangomez8067, said “FPS action games always tend to have slower, less seamless action sequences/movement” and would therefore preferred to have seen The Great Circle as a third-person game.
There are, however, a great number of fans defending the use of first-person. Journalists such as Tom Warren and Jez Corden were just some of the many praising MachineGames' decision to make The Great Circle first-person. “I’m glad Indiana Jones is first person. I think it’s silly to want every game to be third person,“Jez Corden saidover on Twitter. WhileTom Warren saidhe is “super happy Indiana Jones is first-person.”

Other users on Twitter, such as Digital Foundry’sAlexander Battaglia, believe that The Great Circle being first-person will make it “unique in its genre.” While Twitter userVisual Fidelitystates, “Once you understand the purpose of the game is to BE Indiana Jones, not play AS Indiana Jones… you will appreciate that it’s first person.”
There’s currently no release date for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, but it is set to release on PC and Xbox Series X|S at some point this year. If you’re a fan of The Great Circle’s first-person perspective, you can check out more details over on thegame’s official website.
