Over the years, fans have been blessed to see not one, but 8 different actors take on the iconic role of 007. With so many variations, Daniel Craig and Sean Connery’s portrayal of the MI6 agent has found a special place in everyone’s hearts. However, Pierce Brosnan is one of the most recognizable faces to ever play James Bond. While the actor had a seven-year stint as the protagonist from 1995 to 2002, he was actually offered the role 9 years prior but had to miss out on it because of other commitments.

Although Brosnan had ended up missing out on the role in 1986, he once admitted that it was how his journey had to play out.

Pierce Brosnanmight be known for his suave demeanor and effortless charm that he portrayed in four 007 films,GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough,andDie Another Day. However, his journey to the role wasn’t as straightforward as fans might assume. While the now 71-year-old has since left the franchise, he once looked back on his two chances of playing James Bond. In a 2002 interview withPhase 9, the actor opened up about being lucky that he did not get the role when he first wanted it.

I have been very lucky, yes. Again I have been very fortunate that I did not get Bond when I was supposed to get it. I was too young. My features were too handsome, too good looking – call it what you will.

Brosnan continued,“I always used to think that if I was about a foot shorter I would be more talented and if I had a broken nose I would be really talented. Some guy will read this and say ‘I’ll give you a broken nose if you want’.”The actor may have had a point. However, he backed up his reasoning by adding,“I’m sure if someone were to dig out that screen test that I did in 1986 they would just howl. So it did come at the right time when there was a little bit of gravitas to the soul and the heart.”

Unfortunately, that was the last year that Brosnan portrayed James Bond. However, with the actor having lived out his dreams, he had no qualms about it being given to the next in line. In fact, even recently, theMamma Miastar shed light on the potential casting for the successor toDaniel Craig’s007, even though fans want him tomake a comeback.

Earlier this year, reports flooded social media thatAaron Taylor-Johnsonhad been offered the iconic role of James Bond. Although the 34-year-old nor the studio ever confirmed it, speculation began that he could be the next 007. With Pierce Brosnan having worked on the film, The Greatest, with the star back in 2009, the 71-year-old admitted onThe Ray D’Arcy Showthat he could be a perfect fit.

I think the man has the chops and the talent and the charisma to play Bond, very much so.

Brosnan continued,“One of the first movies we made, one of the earliest movies was The Greatest. And he was the greatest in it. So, yes, I read the news about his possibilities of being a Bond, so I would definitely tip my hat to the fellow.”With approval from one of the best Bonds out there, Johnson could prove to be the right man for the job.
