It was the year 2007 when Tobey Maguire became Bully Maguire and donned the iconic Spider-Man costume for the last time (for a while). Andrew Garfield was announced to be his replacement and the world waited.

Starring inThe Amazing Spider-Man,the world initially loved Garfield for his iconic portrayal of a young Peter Parker. However, the actor soon started to receive backlash for his portrayal and was surrounded by controversies. Before all of this, however, Garfield was simply nervous to audition for the iconic role.
Andrew Garfield Was Shaking With Nerves
It wasn’t so much of a nervousness to don the costume than a nervousness to audition for the role that made Andrew Garfield uncomfortable. Although he had some projects to his name, Spider-Man was a big step for him.
On the other hand, the actor also had the most difficult task of filling in the shoes of Tobey Maguire. Garfield tried his hardest and the world had mixed reviews for it.

Despite Andrew Garfield’s $16 Million Net Worth, Lack of One Thing in His Life Still Makes Him Deeply Sad
In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz on theHappy Sad ConfusedPodcast, Garfield vividly remembered his audition for Spider-Man. Although the actor had a ‘meh’ audition at first, a piece of advice from Greta Seacat (who is her current acting coach), paved the way for Garfield.
You know, I did the first audition and I felt ‘That’s that. I’m too old’. I felt like a- like I was too old. I was like ‘I’m 26-27. I’m playing high school. Ehhhhh. I know I got good genes and all but ooh… I don’t know.

He continued,
It was Greta [who] I was working with. I was prepping with Greta and [she] was like ‘I just- I have an adjustment for you’ cause I was like vibrating with nerves. And she was like ‘You have to treat this screentest as if, with your imagination, you are making a short film with all of your high school friends.

Garfield further continued that it was this advice from Greta Seacat who allowed him to lose himself in the character. The nervousness and the tightness that held Garfield back was gone and the actor had a fantastic screentest.
