Have you ever found that one person who seems to share the same beat as you? Someone who, in a world full of noise, you just click with? Well, for Nick Cannon and Christina Milian, that undeniable connection was sparked not just on-screen, but in real life. There’s something irresistibly magnetic about seeing on-screen couples fall for each other in real life, isn’t it?

And for Cannon and Milian, their relationship began as nothing more than a script on paper. In the 2003 remake ofCan’t Buy Me Love, titledLove Don’t Cost a Thing, the actors played characters who, despite their differences, found themselves falling head over heels for one another.
In romance films, kissing scenes tend to carry a certain charm. But for Milian, the kissing scene with Cannon was far from dreamy. In fact, she confessed that she didn’t exactly jump at the chance to kiss Cannon for six hours.

Christina Milian’s Awkward Moment With Nick Cannon on Set
Imagine being thrust into a situation where you’re asked to kiss someone on camera, with an entire film crew watching every move you make. Now, take it a step further: what if the person you’re kissing has their whole family on set, including grandma, dad, and even grandpa? That’s exactly the scenarioChristina Milianfound herself in while filming the 2003 rom-com,Love Don’t Cost a Thing, with Nick Cannon.

Milian took us behind the scenes in theComing Sooninterview, explaining just how bizarre the whole experience felt, even though she had no issues with the actor herself:
It is weird. You know what was so funny? It was so awkward that day because Nick’s family decided to visit for the first time that day. So Nick’s grandma, his mother, his father, his grandfather, everybody was there that day and they’re all watching this kissing scene.

The script simply called for “a nice kiss,”, which she assumed would be brief, easy, and not at all memorable. But that’s where things got complicated. The director had different ideas—he wanted something more genuine. The actress recalled:
And it was so embarrassing, I was really nervous because I was like, ‘Does it have to be a real kiss?’ In the script it said, ‘And they share a nice kiss.’

The thought of kissing Cannon, with the added pressure of being under the scrutinizing eyes of his family, made Milian feel incredibly self-conscious.
I was like, ‘Serious?’ She’s like yeah, I want it to be real. So I went with it. It was nerve-wracking.

The real kicker, though, came when they had to reshoot the scene to make the kiss longer. Six hours of kissing, with cameras rolling and Cannon’s family still present on set. But in the end, Milian had a sense of humor about it. “Not bad because Nick’s cute,” she joked.

While Christina Milian’s side of the story highlights her nervousness and unease, it would be remiss not to mentionNick Cannon’s perspective.

He wasn’t shy about sharing how intense their kissing scenes were. The actor-comedian, 44, confessed earlier toBlack Film:
Having to literally kiss someone for six hours, I wasn’t complaining at all.
After two and a half years of dating, their relationship hit a rocky patch. Milian ended things in 2005 after discovering Cannon’s infidelity. She once said (viaUS Weekly):
The next thing you know, ‘I was reading [everything on his phone]’. For, like, a month, I was reading messages. It was unreal that it was happening.
Cannon eventually opened up about his relationship with Milian, offering a candid reflection on what went wrong:
I was wrong for not being what she wanted me to be. She knew from the jump. We were friends for months before we even got into it, and when we got into it, I was like… ‘Yo, anything remotely like a relationship, I don’t want no parts of it’.
While it may have been a heartbreak at the time, both have gone on to find happiness in their ways. Milian is now married to French singer M. Pokora, while Cannon tied the knot with Mariah Carey, though they divorced in 2016.
