The nominations for the upcoming Oscars 2025 aka 97th Academy Awards have finally been released, and they are as satisfying and baffling at the same time as ever. The nominees, for one, have shared their respective reactions to their nominations as well, including the likes of Sebastian Stan and Monica Barbaro, among others.

But while a lot of the nominations have left both the fans as well as the nominees happy, quite a few of them have left both fans and the nominees stunned because of the snubs. This includes Josh Brolin, who clearly isn’t okay with theDune: Part 2disaster since he has been expressing frustration about the same without hesitation.

As@FilmUpdates on Xrevealed his reaction, Stan said, “I can’t believe I’m in Romania while receiving this news. It’s surreal. I’m stunned. I’m speechless. I’m humbled. Picking my head up in between sobs to say thank you so much to @theacademy for this unfathomable recognition. I cannot stop crying, to no one’s surprise. I’m humbled and deeply honored to be in such brilliant company and sharing this with tiny Ari who sat and studied Judy Garland singing ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ just before the big, beautiful bubble entered. Cynthia Erivopulled off a similar move as she took to herInstagramto post pictures of herself fromWickedafter earning the Best Actress in a Leading Role nod. Besides expressing her gratitude for it all, she wrote, “I often get asked what I would say to my younger self. Well, today there’s nothing to be said. She is smiling, beaming, glowing from ear to ear. That speaks volumes.”

All in all, while there are more, these Oscar nods and reactions are more than enough to emphasize that the Academy really chose some of the best performances this time around. At the same time, there are some questionable snubs as well, like the oneJosh Brolinis calling the Academy out on.

Josh Brolin is expressing frustration withDune 2Oscar snub

On the one hand, while the ones nominated are busy celebrating being acknowledged by the Academy, on the other hand, some of the ones snubbed aren’t hesitating to let their disappointment known.

For one, there’s Josh Brolin, who is calling the Academy out for not nominating mastermindDenis Villeneuvein the Best Director run forDune: Part 2even though his brilliant work on the flick proved to be a critical success, both among critics (seeRotten Tomatoes) as well as at the global box offices (seeThe Numbers).

Oscars 2025: Timothée Chalamet Becomes 1st Ever Actor to Lead 2 ‘Best Picture’ Nominations in the Same Year

Per@DiscussingFilm on X, Brolin’s reaction was, “Apparently, I am going to quit acting because Denis Villeneuve didn’t get nominated. This is just how this thing works. It makes no sense to me.”

All of this being said, it’s unarguable that, just like pretty much every year, this year’s nominations for the 97th Academy Awards are nothing short of baffling either, with many surprised and celebrating getting recognized while some others revel in their disappointing snubs. What remains to be seen is who actually ends up winning what at the final ceremony.

Oscars 2025 are set to premiere on Monday, July 04, 2025, and will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on ABC-TV and streamed live on Hulu.
