Supernaturalis one of the longest-running fantasy shows in the history of television, lasting fifteen seasons before eventually bowing out in 2020. However, the fan excitement and love for the series shows no signs of diminishing even after all these years. As a result, a reboot of the show feels inevitable and creator Eric Kripke seems to agree.

During an interview, Kripke opened up about the possibility of potentially returning to the series he developed for a prospective reboot of the brand. While Kripke agreed that the brand had a solid chance of getting a reboot, he also hinted that a new incarnation might not require lead stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. Here is what Eric Kripke had to say about aSupernaturalreboot.
SupernaturalCreator Eric Kripke is Down For a Reboot
Eric KripkecreatedSupernatural, a series about two brothers traveling across America, fighting monsters, and solving paranormal mysteries. Over the years, Sam and Dean Winchester have become integral figures in modern pop culture thanks to the show’s fifteen-season run.
Despite the show’s longevity, Kripke exited the series as a showrunner following season 5. However, in an interview withCollider, the creator was open to the possibility of returning to the world ofSupernaturalwith a potential reboot.

It’s tricky to find what story in that universe hasn’t been told, but if someone can find one, I’m all in, baby.
Kripke stated the above, revealing that his only condition for a reboot was finding a story that hadn’t been done before. However, that is harder said than done with a show that has carried on for fifteen seasons.

“There’s only one a**hole in the room, and that’s me”: Real Reason Eric Kripke Always Gave the Same Tough Love Speech to Supernatural Writers Room
Furthermore, Kripke’s comments suggest that the reboot doesn’t necessarily have to focus on the Winchester brothers. Instead, it simply needs to be a fresh story that appeals to Kripke and gets him on board. As a result, a series about the origins of the Men of Letters or a Western following the paranormal adventures of Samuel Colt and other hunters might interest Kripke.
Jared Padalecki Wants to Return For aSupernaturalReboot With Jensen Ackles
Kripke isn’t the only one interested in returning to the world ofSupernatural, as lead starJared Padaleckialso recently expressed his desire to reprise his role alongside Jensen Ackles during an appearance on the podcastI’ve Never Said This Before. He said:
The simple answer is 100%. I will play Sam Winchester again. Jensen will play Dean Winchester again.

However, Padalecki admitted thatthe reboot/revival would not be a full season, not wanting to play the same character for years. Instead, the actor suggested a reboot that would have four hour-and-a-half-long episodes.
“Ultimately, it would’ve been a bad show”: Supernatural’s Eric Kripke on Why He Didn’t Do Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman
A lot of the later seasons suffered from the criticism that the series was simply retreading what had been done before with different mechanisms. As a result, bringing Padalecki and Ackles back might not be the best way to reboot the brand. Instead, something a bit more novel likeSupernatural: The Anime Seriesmight work better to explore new stories in this universe.
