Earlier this year, the legendary mangaka Akira Toriyama passed away, leaving behind a legacy that is impossible to take over. Ever since then, fans have been perplexed over what will happen to the anime/manga giant, but the author has given a hint decades ago.

Akira Toriyama Admitted Not Creating a Non-Canon Super Saiyan Transformation That Dragon Ball DAIMA Can Bring Back
In fact, even Akira Toriyama wasn’t sure how long Dragon Ball would continue. The mangaka created an illustration in 1989 that showedGoku as an old man. In the caption, Toriyama explained that the picture portrayed what Goku might look like in the future.

Saiyans live up to 188 years of age, and according to Vegeta, they remain in their prime till the age of 80. So this version of Goku would be visible probably after he’s 150 years old. It is almost funny to think ofGoku and Vegeta getting oldtogether and still bickering with each other at every turn.
After Mini Goku inDrgon Ball DAIMA, is Old Man Goku Next?
Dragon Ball DAIMAshows Goku and the rest of the Z Warriors reduced to pint-sized versions of themselves. Akira Toriyama: The Dragon Ball Anime Has a Major Flaw “Even when professional animators draw it”
Maybe this is a hint towards Goku’s future career as a sensei instead of a serial battle-seeker. His students would undoubtedly be beasts and maybe even overcome the existing Z Warriors. Goten and Trunks would probably be the ones protecting Earth while Goku tortures his students with unbelievable training regimes.
Much likeDAIMA, it might be an enjoyable and refreshing watch due to Goku’s new role as a sensei. All the transformations and over-the-top forms have been getting a bit too repetitive in recent years and a new take on Goku will be welcomed by fans with open arms.

Dragon Ballmanga is available to read on Viz Media, and the anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
