After just two seasons, Paramount+’sHaloshow was dropped. This was quite disappointing, considering the journey to get a live-action adaptation for the franchise was long and arduous.

The reason why the show was a disaster for the fans of the franchise was due to the depiction of Master Chief, the UNSC, and the Covenant, among many other characters and crucial events.
However, despite all that, the show did do quite a few good things, and according to the original Master Chief actor Steve Downes, one of them was to cast the voice of Jen Taylor.

Master Chief’s Voice Actor Defends Paramount’sHaloTV Show Disaster
TheHaloTV show was set in a completely different timeline compared to the main series, with its own lore. Fans hated the fact that it wasn’t a direct one-on-one adaptation of the legendary games by Bungie. In one clip on his official Instagrampage, Steve Downes explained that an exact copy of the games was never going to happen.
Downes acknowledges the challenges of adapting games to live-action series and states that many video game adaptations fail because the two mediums are completely different.

An Underrated 2012 Halo Live Action Should’ve Been the Template for Pablo Schreiber’s Paramount Series
Although he does like some elements of theHaloshow, he doesn’t agree with all the creative decisions taken by Paramount. According to him, the show was never going to be a replica of the games. However, Downes acknowledges that whatever success the show managed to achieve during its short run was all due to its decision to cast Jen Taylor for Cortona.
For me, what holds the whole thing together is that Jen Taylor, who plays Cortana, is in it. That was not always the case in the beginning, but they came to their senses and decided that Jen is Cortana. And she is. If you don’t use Jen Taylor as Cortana, you’re nuts.

Prior to the series’ release, it seemed like theHaloshow was going to cast someone completely new totake on the role of Master Chief’s AI companion. However, the producers of the show soon realized that it would be a fatal mistake not to switch to the series’ legacy voice of Taylor for Cortana.
If you’re unaware, Taylor has been the voice for Cortana right since the release of the first game in the franchise,Halo: Combat Evolved. Every fan has absolutely loved her performance as the AI Companion for Chief, as it allowed for a strong connection between the two characters.

Halo 4Was Going to Recast Master Chief’s Original Voice
Halo4, the successor to 2007’sHalo 3, hit the shelves in 2012. Developed by 343 Industries, the game was supposed to take the franchise in a new direction. However, it wasn’t received well by the fans as it brought some controversial changes that no one had asked for.

However, the game’s most terrible decision was changed right before its release, according to Downes. In aninterview, the voice actor stated that he and Taylor had been recast for the fourth chapter in the franchise. Downes revealed that brand new actors were brought to voice the characters and even completed their work.
During the early playtests, the decision to recast the originalvoice actors caused a problem. Downes shared that players couldn’t recognize Chief and his companion Cortana. After this disaster, both Downes and Taylors were called back to voice their respective characters.
