George Lucas’Star Wars: A New Hopeactor Maria De Aragon died in April. The actor died of natural causes at the age of 81. In a recentInstagrampost by her management company, Coolwaters Productions, De Aragon passed away at a nursing home.

Coolwaters Productions LLC sadly reported that their“client Ms. Maria De Aragon, the actress who helped bring the character of Greedo to life in Star Wars: A New Hope, has passed away,”the company stated on Instagram.
Maria shot her role as Greedo in Los Angeles, California after the principal photography in London UK was finished and George Lucas was not happy with the way the original footage turned out. The character needed to seem more animated. In the close-ups of Greedo speaking, Maria donned the creature mask, creating the memorable face to face confrontation with Han Solo. Maria has expressed during many Q&A/panels when asked ‘What do you think of Harrison Ford’ she would respond, ‘He kills me’ (with a laugh).
Greedo’sStar Warsappearance was memorable. The original character, Greedo, was a male Rodian bounty hunter and De Aragon helped to bring the character with elegance but the fate of the character ended in Han Solo’s gun.

Greedo, despite having minimal screen time,was a cool character. TheRodian bounty hunter grew up on Tatooine in Mos Espa. Among many jobs, the character was also involved in the infamous attempt to captureHarrison Ford’s Han Solo as Greedo was following crime lord Jabba the Hutt’s special job.
De Aragon left behind her family in Canada, Coolwaters Productions LLC further added,
She passed away at a nursing home at the age of 81 in late April 2024 of natural causes. Our hearts are saddened, and we wish her family the very best and we thank all her Star Wars fans for years of support.
