Space Marines are the best of the best when it comes to engaging with forces of chaos and Tyranids. However, the game’s team recently revealed in an interview that one of the challenges they faced while developing the title was entirely unexpected.

Anyone who has played the first game in theSpace Marinesubseries knows that Space Marines are absolute units when battling Tyranid hordes.Despite the eight confirmed Tyranid typesappearing intimidating to future players, Space Marines are known to make short work of them.

Talking to PCGamer in aninterview, the game’s dev team revealed that the team had trouble making the game challenging enough when four such war machines were on the battlefield.
Yann François, brand and creative manager for Saber Interactive’s upcomingSpace Marine 2, discussed this and elaborated on the team’s struggles with developing the game’s co-op element:
[It] was quite a challenge for the team to say: ‘OK, [Space Marines] are almost invincible. How do we create a challenge around it?’ Because it could be super easy…That is what led to the choice of creating a multiplayer of up to three players.
It makes sense that reducing the number of players in the game’s co-op mode was the only way out of this sticky situation. The team couldn’t possibly alter with the power dynamic in the lore or massively underpower Space Marines. As that would have been a sure-shot way of attracting flak from fans.

Space Marines and Ultra Marines are superhuman juggernauts with multiple beating hearts, measuring multiple meters in height. Fans had expressed anticipation and excitement. That is because they were waiting for the second installment in the Space Marine subseries for close to thirteen years.
