George R.R. Martin andHouse of the Dragonfans felt the same disappointment after Season 2 of the hit HBO series made a lot of significant changes. The author has previously addressed this in a long essay posted on his blog, and he even left a warning that things may not get better if showrunner Ryan Condal and his team choose to push through with their own creative vision over staying faithful to the source material.

On HBO’s part, it seems like they aren’t planning to make some course corrections following their chief’s latest statement. This is quite jarring, of course, since the author’s work brought so much profit and prestige to the studio.
HBO Boss Gives Disheartening Comment on the Fate ofHouse of the DragonSeason 3
George R.R. Martincould no longer keep quiet about the numerous modifications that showrunnerRyan Condaland his writers applied to the previously concluded season ofHouse of the Dragon.
House of the Dragon Season 2 Has Already Failed to Meet George R.R. Martin’s One Major Requirement From the Game of Thrones Prequel
In response to this, HBO and Max chiefCasey Bloysshared withVarietyhow important Martin is for them, but when they are talking about business such as putting on a show together, expect that there will be challenges. He likened the situation to a marriage, especially when Condal had to make his own creative decisions, too. “It can be fraught, and like any marriage, sometimes it gets rocky.”
Bloys wishes everyone would get along and work in harmony, but he argued that this isn’t the usual case in a creative industry like television production. “It’s a creative process. It’s always going to have its bumps, and it’s to be expected.” This does not sound quite reassuring for fans who expect the upcoming third season will finally get on track and follow the source material.

Martin pointed out in hisnow-deleted postthe inaccuracies exhibited in the show and how this mistake will affect the subsequent storylines. While there may be time to save the franchise by filling in the gaps, it does not seem like the studio is looking into making some damage repairs. Bloys’ comment almost tells fans to sit back and expect the “bumps” to happen.
“It’s okay George. You can criticize the show”: George R.R. Martin Goes Too Far in His Praise For House of the Dragon Season 2, Fans Will Disagree With His One Hot Take
The first season aired in 2022 and the sequel followed in 2024, so we are likely to get the third installment by 2026. Given the chief’s comment, fans may think the two-year wait is not worth it anymore.
Ryan Condal Promises the Narrative Will Make Sense in the End
Despite the massive backlash and doubts, Condal urges fans to let the story unfold. During his appearance on theofficialHouse of the Dragonpodcast, the showrunner suggested:
Please stay tuned. I think most people will see what we’re doing and will be able to see how it actually dovetails in very nicely with the history as it exists.

The finale of the second season felt underwhelming for the majority of viewers. All fans can do for now is hope that the creative team will make significant choices to improve their storytelling.
House of the Dragonis currently available to watch on HBO.
