The developers of Ratatan, the spiritual successor toPatapon(made by the same creator), have delayed its Steam Early Access release date in order to improve the game as much as possible.

Ratatan is a roguelike rhythm game, where the player guides a little troupe of magical creatures, known as Cobuns. Unlike Patapon, the player has full control over the movement of the protagonist, as they guide their Cobuns into battle while exploring the isle of Rataport.

Ratatan originally earned over a million dollars on Kickstarter to fund its development, and following the release of its demo, fans have been eager to experience the Early Access release. The official RatatanSteampage has announced that the Early Access has now been delayed to Friday, July 20, 2025, as it needs more time in the oven.

Ratatan’s Early Access Begins In September

The reason given for the delay is that the Ratatan team needs “a little extra time to polish the game and deliver it to you in the best possible state.” This isn’t an unreasonable request, as the delay will only take around a month, and if the developers are announcing it so late, then it must be needed to get the game into an acceptable state.

Just before theEarly Access version launches, a special Ratatan livestream will be held on Sunday, September 14, hosted by Tomokazu Sugita. This will show off the game, as well as reveal the post-launch roadmap, where future content will be announced for the first time.

Naturally, some people are going to be disappointed by the delay, especially after havingexperienced the demo. The disappointment would be worse if the Early Access build launched with bugs and performance issues, so fans just need to be patient and wait for Ratatan to be in as good a shape as possible, ahead of its next debut.
