Andrew McCarthy’s upcoming documentaryBratshas reunited some of the 1980s’ popular Brat Pack members. The Emmy-winning actor Jon Cryer, who shared that he never considered himself to be a member of the group, does not have pleasant memories of working with one of its members.
Cryer and McCarthy shared the screen as rivals Duckie and Blane, respectively, in the 1986 filmPretty in Pink.However, despite initial tensions between the co-stars, they have since reconciled, resolving any past animosity.

Jon Cryerand Andrew McCarthy shared the screen with Molly Ringwald in the 1986 romantic comedyPretty in Pink.However, similar to their on-screen characters, the duo also had a hard time getting along off-camera as well, as theTwo and a Half Menstar recalled during an appearance onThe View.
“He and I famously did not get along when we were shooting Pretty in Pink,”he said before adding,“It was because there was tension.”And the actor once again reflected on their strained relationship during theBrats‘ premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival.
“When we had done Pretty in Pink together, we did not get along because he was a dk,”Cryer candidly shared, as perPeople. WhileDemi Moorecame in defense of herSt. Elmo’s Fireco-star, saying,“Well I didn’t think he was a dk,”Cryer maintained his stance, noting,“Well he wasn’t a d**k to you.”
However, despite their past conflicts, they have made amends and have moved past their differences. McCarthy also acknowledged that he was rude towards his former co-star.“That’s very true,”he said agreeing with Cryer’s assessment of their dynamic on the set ofPretty in Pink.
Jon Cryer Has Reconciled With Andrew McCarthy
During his appearance onThe View, Jon Cryer reflected on the time, when he and his former co-star Andrew McCarthy reconciled backstage on the talk show. The actor shared that their encounter marked a meaningful shift in their relationship.
“Interestingly, I saw him backstage and we had a lovely time, we had a great talk,”he said. Cryer also shared that the conversation made him realize that he projected negative assumptions onto his co-star, believing him to be distant and unfriendly. However, he later found out about the things he was struggling with at the time.
At any rate, what I realize now, he wrote a terrific memoir called Brat, he was already struggling with alcoholism back when we were shooting that movie. I’d projected all this stuff on him at the time, I thought he’s this sullen guy that doesn’t want to talk to me.
Cryer continued,
We’re enemies [as characters] on the movie, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be friends…But we just had no rapport whatsoever at the time. I found out later he was going through some tough stuff. That was such a lesson for me, it’s all about projection. You never know.
AtBrats‘ premiere, Cryer reflected on the significant interaction, saying,“It was a lovely moment.”He shared that their genuine and warm backstage conversation made them realize that their rivalry or feud was insignificant and that their teenage self does not reflect who they are as adults.
