Every anime has its fair share of pros and cons andNarutois no exception to this rule. The series has its pitfalls that people are calling out decades after its premiere.

From objectification to child abuse, Masashi Kishimoto outlined some disturbing events in his series. However, that is not all considering the premise of the manga. The hate is now being directed particularly towards the legendary Sannin.
As one of the three legendary Sannins, Jiraiya is famed for his prowess and wisdom. But most importantly, he shaped the generations of Hokage through his mentorship.

This, however, doesn’t exempt him from the blatant criticism by the fanbase. And while one would point to his perversion and grooming, another aspect has come to the limelight. This censure spotlights Sannin’s controversial standing and role in the series.
Jiraiya’s biggest blunder with Sasuke
One of the biggest criticisms fans have regardingJiraiyais his perversion. Early on in the series, he is established as The Pervy Sage who pries on women and even minors for that matter.
Regardless of that, the character took his role a bit too seriously. Time and time again, fans have noted how the character went way too far in his lecherous pursuits. This also ties well with his treatment of his protege which often involved manipulation. And there’s more to it.

While Sexy Jutsu was a bribe for the Pervy Sage, this most certainly won’t sit well with the present times. His lewd antics coupled with his disregard for innocents is what makes him more hateful.
But that is not all considering his involvement withSasuke. His powerlessness and lack of responsibility are attributed to the character’s mental scarring. And most fans would vouch for this aspect.

Several Redditorsexpressedtheir disappointment toward the character.
Despite his glorious death, the character isn’t spared from criticism especially when it comes to his problematic choices. From Ame Orphans to Orochimaru, his ignorance and lack of responsibility make him a detestable character.
In this case, Kishimoto is partly responsible for his preferential treatment of downright problematic characters.

Masashi Kishimoto and his preferential treatment toward problematicNarutocharacters
Most mangaka have an innate tendency to play favorites andMasashi Kishimotois no exception. This is evident in his giving redemption arcs to the most controversial characters in the series. A perfect example of this is Orochimaru.
To say that his stint in the series is controversial would be an understatement. From grooming to abducting children, the character is symbolic of impunity. To be exonerated after committing unpardonable crimes is a great feat in itself. However, there’s more to it.
Kishimoto has a long history of favoritism with mostNarutocharacters. From sainting Hokage to pardoning Orochimaru, the mangaka normalized disturbing behaviors.
In a similar vein, his romanticization of the Hokage highlighted some major problems in the series. The ostracization of Uchiha, child suicide missions, and Konoha’s war crimes are perfect examples of that.

Despite his feats asNaruto’smentor, the Sannin got away too easily with his creepy behavior. While he is a remarkable shinobi, one cannot negate his negligence and ignorance along with his disturbing antics.
Narutois available for streaming on Crunchyroll. The manga is available for reading on Viz Media.
