New games always have quirks that are ironed out with patches, and the same can be said forFlintlock. Some Xbox users are finding that the game is difficult to view and even calibrating their settings if they are not achieving the desired results.

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn Players Speak out About Brightness Issues

A new release typically goes through some growing pains before finding its position and hitting its stride. These could range from issues such as balancing the in-game interactions to technical issues that affect performance and experience.Flintlock: The Siege of Dawnappears to be suffering from the latter, at least on the Xbox platform.

One player has taken to the game’s subreddit to share their experience, stating that the game appears to be visually far too dark. Gamegenievintage states they are playing on the Xbox Series X, and even changing the gamma calibration doesn’t have any tangible impact on the brightness.

While the start ofFlintlockcan be made more manageable with the right skills, the OP needed to contend with low brightness and discern where they were moving in the cave to advance the story.

Another commenter agrees with the OP, stating that the HDR and brightness settings appear to be heavily bugged.

Others agree with the OP’s observations, claiming to experience the same issues.

These issue can be rectified with a quick patch, and it appears to be affecting only Xbox consoles. The problem is selective, as not everyone with the console is dealing with brightness fluctuations. A44 Games should address the issue soon, though, as players may decide to jump onto another game if no quick resolution is provided.

New Technical Issues Get Highlighted by Fans

The brightness problem may be the latest, but it’s not the only performance issue fans of the game have spotted so far. Fast-paced and aggressive combat is one of its major features, but fans have pointed outFlintlock’s combat can be far more responsive, claiming it is impossible to interrupt animations.

“Why is it still a thing?”: Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn Prompts Gamers to Ask Why 1 Hated Mechanic Still Exists in Gaming

Bloodborne, a title that seems to have inspired the combat in the game, offered some of the most responsive controls of Souls-like games to date, and that’s what many are comparing it to. FromSoftware’s entire approach to combat changed after the release of its game, and it showed the world that Souls-like titles don’t have to follow the sword-and-shield formula every time.

Animation cancellation is a crucial feature in games that require quick movement. Dodging is imperative in the game, but it is impossible to use the skill, as animations can’t be canceled. Animation traps not only reduce player agency, but it also feels like the game has not been designed with combat in mind.
