In a blog post fromHalo Waypoint,Halo Infinitewill now release on Xbox Series X|S sometime in Fall 2021. In addition to this announcement, we’ve also received new screenshots among other updates.

Halo Infinitewas supposed to be an Xbox Series X|S launch title but gotdelayed back in August. After receiving new gameplayback in July, fans were worried about thegame’s visualsand how it looked. Towards the end of the blog post, creative director Joesph Staten says he finished the game’s campaign twice during his first week and they’ll be focusing on fixing bugs and polishing.

“The primary goal for the Campaign demo in July was showingHalo Infinitegameplay for the first time. While that aspect generally landed as we wanted, the reality is that the art and visuals weren’t at the bar we hold for Halo – even in a work-in-progress state,” says Neill Harrison, director of art management at 343. “Much of the feedback we heard from the community aligned with our own views and work we were already committed to doing around things like indirect lighting, material response, foliage and tree rendering, clouds, level-of-detail transitions, and character fidelity. Still, the feedback was humbling, and it also pushed us to look at additional opportunities for improvement.”

Another thing touched on in the blog post is its multiplayer, which will befree-to-play. Chris Blohm, lead progression designer on the game says with it being free-to-play, there will be premium customization options for players. These can be earned in several ways such as through the campaign, completing challenges, or participating in special events. Additionally, the multiplayer maps will be more expansive, run at 60 FPS, and will feature time of day changes. 343’s Ani Shastry points out that these among others were technically challenging and required a lot of time spent to optimize their game engine and tools.

Halo Infinitehas been on a rocky road the past year. Besides the delay, the game’s former director left the projectback in October. 343 Industries says they’ll bemore communicativeabout the game going forward. Additionally,Xbox’s Phil Spencerhas said he’s glad the game will come out when more Xbox Series X|S' will be available to purchase.
