According to a statement issued by the film festival, theBarbiehelmer is set to preside over the competition jury at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Becoming the first American female director to serve as jury president, Gerwig is setting her records straight.

Following this announcement, Gerwig is now set to become the first American female director to be Cannes Jury President. The acclaimed filmmaker is only the second female director to take over the post, since Jane Campion in 2014. She’s also the second American woman to achieve this honor since Olivia de Haviland in 1965.
