Following this announcement, Gerwig is now set to become the first American female director to be Cannes Jury President. The acclaimed filmmaker is only the second female director to take over the post, since Jane Campion in 2014. She’s also the second American woman to achieve this honor since Olivia de Haviland in 1965.
