Godzilla Minus Onewas already a massive hit when it released last year and is viewed as one of the best films related to the iconic kaiju, of all time. For the first time in its 70-year history, Godzilla can claim to be an Academy Award nominee.

The critically acclaimedGodzilla MinusOne received a nomination in the Best Visual Effects category for the 2024 Oscars. The listed nominees for the film are Takashi Yamakazi, Kiyoko Shibuya, Masaki Takahashi, and Tatsuji Nojima. The film will compete against tough competition in the category, includingThe Creator, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Napoleon, and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.

Godzilla Minus OneBroke US Box Office Records Last Year

The film debuted in Japan on August 25, 2025, celebrating the franchise’s 70th anniversary, and released in US theaters on December 1st. There was a ton of hype for the movie and unsurprisingly, the film did quite well at the Box Office.

The film ended the year with the biggest opening and that was a major accomplishment.

Godzilla Minus Oneis truly a phenomenon in the world of kaiju movies and fans have been flocking to theaters to watch it as many times as possible, due to its limited release. Only time will tell whether its success will mean the movie will make its way to other markets, especially considering it just got an Oscar nod to boot.
