Daenerys Targaryen’s fit of rage and insanity during the final season ended up appearing as controversial rather than anticipated due to several factors. Many argued that her descent into madness was rushed, and there wasn’t any feasible reason at the moment that would have triggered her anger to the extent that she would commit genocide.

This arc could still be fixed in George R.R. Martin’s upcoming sixth novel,The Winds of Winter, and we’re hoping he will come up with a more satisfying storyline to Dany’s derangement, that is if he’s planning to follow the same path as the series.
Tyrion Lannister could have been the reason for Daenerys Targaryen’s madness
Small changes lead to big results, and this is exactly what happened to Daenerys in Season 8. There are many reasons why she burned King’s Landing despite Cersei Lannister’s act of surrender, but they weren’t enough to justify her action. A more fitting reason could have been used by the showrunners if only they hadn’t changed one important aspect in Tyrion Lannister’s story back in Season 4.
House of the Dragon Can Do the Wildest Thing to Prove Daenerys Was the Real Targaryen Curse That Ended Their Line
Perhaps one of the darkest times in his life took place during this period. He was imprisoned for allegedly poisoning King Joffrey Baratheon and was sentenced to death after his champion, Oberyn Martell, failed to defend his honor during the trial by combat. In the end, Tyrion didn’t rot in the cell as Jaime Lannister freed him.
Their interaction swiftly ended in their farewells, but inA Storm of Swords, Jaime came clean aboutTyrion’s first wife, Tysha. He learned the heartbreaking truth about her, which was his true reason for killing Tywin Lannister in the book. As he left the place, he swore vengeance on his family and became a much darker version of himself.

Tyrion in the show remained a likable character. Those who have read the books, especiallyA Dance with Dragons, would know that he’s not the same person anymore. Interestingly, this continues in the preview chapters ofThe Winds of Winter. He harbors the same loathsome thoughts, and it’s really scary because he doesn’t only feel it for people who wronged him but everyone in general.
George R.R. Martin Almost Ruined the Best Game of Thrones Storyline That Would’ve Made Emilia Clarke a Villain
The show’s version of Tyrion met Daenerys and believed she could be a good leader in Westeros. This isn’t true for the books—he meant to work with the Mother of Dragons for vile reasons, which, in retrospect, is a better explanation forDany’s madness.
George R.R. Martin’sThe Winds of Wintercan fix Dany’s rushed arc
Dany already showed violent tendencies, and having a vindictive counselor by her side is ten times more fearful. When she said, “Let it be fear,” inSeason 8 Episode 5, show Tyrion would have tried to reason with her, but book Tyrion would definitely encourage her further to fulfill his desire for revenge.
This would have justified her cruel action as a result of gradual corruption. Dany and Tyrion would be walking down this path of evilness hand in hand, and it wouldn’t feel too rushed or unearned. Hopefully, we’ll see this happen inGeorge R.R. Martin’sThe Winds of Wintersoon.
