Genshin Impactis all set to get a major update to mark its 3rd anniversary, and it seems like it could possibly completely overhaul the game’s direction.

According to a new leak posted on theGenshin Impact Leaks subreddit, the 4.0 Update will likely be a region centered around two cities, that will be inspired by London and Paris. Other regions in the game have only had one main city, and it seems like HoYoverse will likely be setting a precedence for the game with the update. Avid bibliophiles were quick to see the resemblance with A Tale of Two Cities, a Dickens masterpiece from which HoYoverse could possibly draw inspiration from.

Further elaborating on the region, the leak suggests that the region will mark the era where “steampunk and technology coexist.” Fans believe that the developers could possibly emulate the intersection of the French and Industrial Revolution which possibly explains the coexistence of steampunk and technology. To make things, even more, intriguing, the leak also adds that there could be a conflict between the two regions.

While the leaks are quite surprising, HoYoverse had already dropped hints about it in the game. As Reddit user_erikku216highlights, HoYoverse had previously touched upon the conflicting ideologies via Alain and Rene, two kids from Fontaine, who set the for the country’s direction of development. If the leaks turn out to be true, it seems like the Traveler could play a crucial role in resolving the conflict between the two cities.

As far as the release date of the update goes, several sources have suggested that the developers will likely be skipping the 3.9 Update, and going directly to the 4.0 Update. This means that we could see the update releasing in August, which could cause it to coincide with the game’s anniversary in late September. This isn’t something unprecedented, and we have seen HoYoverse doing it quite a number of times in the past for its major update. The first banner is rumored to add the brother-sister duo Lyney and Lynette, who will likely be a 5-star Pyro bow user and four-star Anemo sword user respectively. We should be learning more about the highly anticipated update in the days to come.
