I’ve been trying to access the GameStop website throughout the day to no avail, though it sometimes loads and then goes to a 404 page after clicking through an item. It’s not just GameStop, as the online portals ofWalmart,TargetandBest Buyhave also been affected. Things might have stabilized a bit, but don’t be surprised to be greeted with website errors throughout the day, as Switch 2-hungry fans are rabidly trying to secure their console.
Given the number of people trying to secure a console, I’m not expecting to snag a unit at launch. There’s also a rumor we reported on earlier in the month that GameStop’s allocation of Switch 2 units at launchis way below expectations, which is bad news for everyone who wants to play the latest Nintendo game this June.
Stocks are scarce not just in the US but also in Nintendo’s home country of Japan. The video game company is saidnot to have enough units to satisfy demand at launch, which isn’t surprising given how popular the Switch is in the country.
It looks like the Switch 2’s high price for the console and first-party games aren’t enough to deter gamers from snagging one.
The Switch 2 Stick Drift Might Be A Real Issue Again Due To Nintendo’s Confirmation
The new sticks are quieter now though according to Nintendo.
If you can wait it out, the original Switch still has some legs under it, and even Nintendo of America’s CEOrecommends it for those who can’t afford the Switch 2. You can even play select Switch 2 cartridges on the original Switch, though don’t expect that to be a big list.
Chances are, by the time GameStop and the other retailer websites are working, all pre-order allocations will be snatched up. Let’s hope that Nintendo can meet demand at some point within the year since this stock situation should be more dire during the holiday season.
